Airwaves: June 6, 2008
The Sound's First Jock
100.3 The Sound's first on-air personality took to the afternoon airwaves this
week, and he may be a familiar voice to you. His name is Andy Chanley --
the very same Andy Chanley who presided over the morning shift on the old Channel
103.1 (now Indie 103.1, KDLD) from 1999 to 2001 (Wow, has it been
that long???)
The Sound's programmer Dave Beasing said "Chanley is quite possibly
the smartest -- and nicest -- deejay in radio," adding, "as the first
deejay of The Sound, Andy now secures a place in our history ... and future."
I think he's a good choice because of his musical knowledge and obvious love
of the format; I continue to expect great things from The Sound.
Beasing himself is a new hire to the station, which launched its format under
new ownership just a short time ago. He's experienced with the the format and
is highly respected in the radio world. And the music director/assistant programmer
Haley Jones has won awards for her work from industry newspaper Radio and Records.
Again, I expect great things. The station now has new call-letters, KSWD
Calling Dr. Radio
Sirius Satellite Radio this week added a new channel to its lineup hosted exclusively
by doctors.
Available on Channel 114, Doctor Radio features dozens of expert clinicians
and researchers hosting live call-in shows. The idea is to provide expert information,
medical news and interesting stories from the world of health and medicine delivered
firsthand by New York University medical professionals.
Doctor Radio replaces what was once LIME Radio -- Healthy Living with
a Twist -- which left the air when the provider of the channel decided to move
to podcasts.
Artist Update
Sirius has backed off of long-term single-artist channels, at least for now,
and currently is running but a few ... which means I can recommend the service
again.
Real American Idol
It seems Ryan Seacrest is everywhere these days. His morning show on KIIS-FM (102.7
FM), television's American Idol, interviews on talk shows. Soon you'll
be able to hear him on the radio in Florida, as he adds another affiliate to
his morning show syndication.
KISS 95.1 (WBVD/Melbourne)announced this that beginning June 16th On Air with
Ryan Seacrest will be heard from 11 AM to 2 PM. I am sure that being owned
by Clear Channel -- as is KIIS-FM here in Los Angeles -- and the fact that syndicating
the show to Florida means overall cost savings through the loss of local Florida
talent had absolutely nothing to do with the decision ...
